Now, thanks to Weidmuller's release of the smart SL Series, serial communications equipment can be used over the Ethernet. The SL Series allows serial devices to connect to Ethernet networks effortlessly and quickly.
The Weidmuller SL-COM Serial Device Servers enable serial devices to communicate over installed copper, fibre or radio networks. They convert serial protocol to Ethernet, allowing older equipment and products to converse with new technology.
Powerful and highly reliable, users can choose between a one or two port Serial Device Server. The servers provide a10Mbit Ethernet port with 1.5kV isolation and the serial ports are software selectable for RS-232/422/485.
Designed for maximum convenience, both server options support a variety of different operating modes, can act as a TCP client or server and support UDP Tunnelling for communication between two SL-COM units.
Configuration of the SL-COM Serial Device Servers is remarkably easy with the aid of an internal web page with watchdog and Brownout detection.
If users require a Modbus solution, they can choose Weidmuller's SL-MOD GW Modbus Gateway. Specifcally designed for industrial use, the SL-MOD-GW provides transparent conversion between Modbus RTU serial data (RS232 or RS485) and Modbus TCP on Ethernet. It easily integrates Modbus Serial devices into an Ethernet TCP network.
Like its sister devices, the SL-MOD-GW Modbus Gateway can also be configured quickly and simply using a standard web browser interface with watchdog and Brownout detection. Housed in a convenient DIN Rail Mount which is just 22.5mm in width, both the SL-COM Serial Device Servers and the SL-MOD-GW Modbus Gateway are small to help save on space and for easy handling.
All three units have a 0-60ºC operating temperature range and are very energy efficient. They consume less than 1W of power and are suitable for use in process plants, petrochemical and chemical plants, food and beverage plants and laboratories.
