Three reasons to cheer: Weidmüller junior staff and TWG receive Chamber of Industry and Commerce award

Thumbs up for their success: Jana Ahlheit and Jannis Hecke together with the CPO and their Chamber of Industry and Commerce award.

Detmold / Wutha-Farnroda. Honour to whom honour is due. Jannis Hecke has received high praise for his outstanding performance. The 24-year-old was honoured by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammer (IHK)) in Gelsenkirchen as “IHK Best of the state NRW” for the remarkably good completion of his apprenticeship as a stamp and forming mechanic in November last year. The award marks him as one of the 246 best apprentices in the state. The 246 winners are the top apprentices from among roughly 4,000 young women and men who passed their final examinations with a grade of “very good”, with at least 92 out of 100 points. Weidmüller apprentice Jana Ahlheit achieved another top performance. The trained warehouse logistics specialist was named one of the best in her year by IHK Detmold. But that is not all: Thuringian Weidmüller GmbH in Wutha-Farnroda received an award for its first-class level of training.

Support during training decisive

Such notable success does not come out of nowhere. “I would have never been able to do as well as I did on the exam without the support of Curd Meinl and my colleagues. I am very thankful for that”. Ultimately, however, personal ambition was the driver behind the awards. For Curd Meinl, warehouse coordinator at Weidmüller and contact person for apprentices in the department, Jana’s “thirst for knowledge and commitment” are two of her unique strengths.

And what was Jannis's secret for success? “Going to bed with the equipment handbook in my hand” he says, with a wink. He adds, a bit more seriously, that his trainer Alexander Wirth, and his teachers at the vocational school and colleagues from the department provided essential support.

Do the pair have any tips for future graduates? Jana considers her training the “first building block in my career”. “Dive in and get the most out of it that you can, so you have a good foundation for your future” the 21-year-old emphasises. Jannis has a similar viewpoint. He feels it is important to be curious, question everything, and think for yourself: “Ask when you do not understand something, and listen carefully when something is being explained to you”.

Good mood in Thuringia: (from left to right) Stephan Herrmann (Employment Agency), Cornelia Haase-Lerch (IHK Erfurt), Kirsten Herm (personnel manager), Maria Gross (plant manager), Sebastian Adam und Robert Kiesewetter (both trainers).

TWG “outstanding training company”

Both graduates received a bonus from Weidmüller for graduating with a grade of “very good”. In addition, both Jana and Jannis received a voucher for books from the Works Council. Due to the pandemic, Jana was not able to receive her award in person. She received a gift basket from the IHK as a token of recognition. Jannis was one of the six best apprentices in IHK professions from Lippe and was honoured for his performance in Gelsenkirchen.

Great joy also at TWG in Wutha-Farnroda, Thuringia. The company has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Training Company" by the Employment Agency and the Erfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for its commitment to training. Weidmüller received the award from Cornelia Haase-Lerche, Managing Director of the Erfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The award criteria range from the training itself, to teaching and learning conditions, to maintaining contact with schools. "Weidmüller graduates have been among the best examinees for years," praised Chief Executive Haase-Lerch. Maria Groß, plant manager at TWG, is pleased about this. "We are naturally very proud of the honor," says Groß, who manages the company with 330 employees.
