The German electronics and connectivity technology company Weidmüller is expanding its activities on the Chinese market. A new manufacturing site will be built in the city of Suzhou. With this project, Weidmüller is strengthening its commitment in China and investing in local, sustainable and more efficient capacities for production, R&D and logistics. Completion of the new site and start of production are scheduled for July 2025.
The Weidmüller Group's new manufacturing site will be built in China's leading industrial park, the Suzhou Industrial Park. In addition to R&D and logistics, administrative functions will also be integrated into the new building complex. High technological standards in terms of automation and digitalisation will be taken into account in the new building. The production area will be 20,000 square metres, R&D approx. 8,000 square metres. In total, the Weidmüller Group is investing a mid-double-digit million euro amount in the development of its new manufacturing site in East China.
With their new site Weidmüller will strengthen its local-for-local concept in China. It will enable the company to make its logistics and production processes much more efficient. The electronics and connectivity technology company will produce its products locally for China and Asia. This will reduce CO2 emissions caused by long transport routes. In addition, the company strengthens its presence in the fast-growing Chinese market and will be closer to its clients in China.
Mr André Sombecki, CFO of the Weidmüller Group, is enthusiastic and sees a lot of growth potential in the “Next Generation China” project: “With the construction of the new production site in Suzhou, we are strengthening our commitment in China. On the one hand, we are expanding and optimising our operational footprint in terms of productivity, efficiency and sustainability. On the other hand, we will be able to be more local and to have an even closer contact with our Chinese clients.”
The official kick-off for the project took place on April 12th 2023 with the signing of the Memorandum of understanding on site in the Suzhou Industrial Park.
