There are a large number of DIN standards and DIN VDE regulations in electrical house installation and electrical installation of apartments. They result in the need to comply with high safety standards and increased fire protection for electrical installations and distribution panel construction. These standards also apply to a wide variety of components and electrical equipment that often have to be integrated into complex subdistribution and distribution panels for low-voltage systems in very confined spaces.
Our new AITB installation terminal blocks have been specially developed to meet the special requirements and safety regulations for standard-compliant and modern electrical installations. Special features of the neutral disconnect terminal block provide real added value for planning, installation and operation on site. The existing portfolio of terminal blocks with screw connection is compatible with the AITB system and facilitates the measurement of insulation resistance required by the standard - protective earth (PE) against neutral (N) and protective earth against all phases (L1, L2, L3).

The planning phase with our AITB installation terminal blocks
In the Weidmüller Configurator (WMC) you can digitally plan, assemble, and directly order complete terminal rails – including accessories. You can also create complete parts lists and installation instructions for production. In this way, failures can be avoided and costs can be saved.
Modular terminal blocks AITB have a multifunctional disconnect area. It can accommodate either a fuse holder, a disconnector, or a component plug. Thus, the terminal block for the DIN rail can be used within an application as a disconnect terminal, fuse terminal or as an terminal with electronic components.
The continuous cross-connection channels of our modular terminal blocks AITB increase flexibility and save wiring time. Structures in the 400 V three-phase system can be cross-connected easily and conveniently with the phase conductors L1, L2, and L3.
Thus, the terminal blocks for the DIN rail can be used within an application as a disconnect terminal, fuse terminal or as an terminal with electronic components. This is immediately shown by the corresponding test marks on the products and product labels.
The installation phase with our AITB installation terminal blocks
Our modular terminal blocks AITB already support robot-assisted assembly, marking, and wiring. So you are optimally prepared for the advancing partial automation in control cabinet construction.
NYM cables and other solid conductors are simply pushed into the clamping point after stripping to create a reliable connection. Even fine-stranded conductors can be connected by simply pressing the coloured pusher. No special tools required!
A uniform busbar position enables the combination of different terminal block products and connection technologies in one complete system. For large cross-sections – e.g. N conductors – the side screw terminal connection is available. Terminal blocks with convenient PUSH IN connection technology are used to collect and distribute potentials.
The different functional areas can be clearly distinguished by shape or colour. For example, conductor connection, cross-connections, and test hole can be clearly identified. Installation and maintenance work can be carried out quickly and without errors.
The operation phase with our AITB installation terminal blocks
AITB modular terminals can be mounted and dismantled quickly and easily – even in combination. This also applies if a busbar with modular terminal blocks AITB of the A-Series is already integrated into the system. This speeds up maintenance work and components can be retrofitted or replaced in a minimum of time.
With modular terminal blocks AITB, no conductive components can be reached with voltage testers when wired. This makes operation safer, but also hinders the use of test probes. In order to carry out the required measurements, standardised test holes with a practical snap-in mechanism have been integrated. Once the test probes are snapped in, the test report can be filled out while the measurement is in progress.
The neutral conductor can be separated from the busbar quickly and easily with a screwdriver. A clearly visible status display indicates the current contact position of the disconnecting slide. This reliably prevents operating errors.
If many FI/LS circuits are used in an installation, each N potential can be routed and separated via the individual isolator. This enables measuring the insulation resistance of all conductors to earth, as required by VDE 0100-718 and DIN VDE 0100-482, without disconnecting the neutral conductor.
High safety requirements and fire protection in building services are designed to protect people and equipment located in workplaces. There are numerous standards for this, such as the standard DIN VDE 0100-718 - VDE 0100-718 (Low-voltage electrical installations), the standard DIN VDE 0100-482 - VDE 0100-482 (for operation of electrical installations of fire, fire hazard), DIN VDE 0105-100 - VDE 0105-100 (operation of electrical installations) and also DIN VDE 0701-0702 - VDE 0701-0702 (repair and modification of electrical equipment), which include every component, no matter how small, in the overall system or refer to the safe operation of the installation within the work site.
These norms and standards also increase the safety requirements for all electrical systems and their components – for example, the terminal block system that acts as the interface between the electrical system and the building. The DIN VDE standards refer to fire protection or the avoidance of a potential fire hazard, the operation of electrical systems or the repair and modification of electrical equipment.
DIN VDE 0100-600 "Low-voltage electrical installations" contains requirements for the initial testing of electrical installations. With the test before commissioning, the electrician determines whether the normative requirements were met during the construction of the electrical system.
In the design and installation of distribution cabinets for low-voltage electrical installation systems in residential, office and industrial buildings, the normative requirements include the opening and closing of fused circuits for insulation resistance measurement. Depending on the number of circuit groups within an object, the disconnection can be done by a standard disconnecting lever or a disconnecting slide. The required measurement or test of the insulation resistance of all wires against the protective ground (PE/protective earth) must be carried out in accordance with DIN VDE 0100-718 and VDE 0100-482 without disconnecting the neutral conductor in order to detect insulation faults within the system.
In smaller current circuits with few current paths, the measurement of insulation resistance is performed with the help of standard disconnectors (levers) in the terminal block. In the case of larger current circuits with many individual circuits, a disconnecting slider is used for insulation resistance measurement, which ensures contact with the 10x3 N busbar. The insulation resistance measurement itself is performed conveniently and safely via the integrated test tap on the respective installation terminal block on the DIN rail.
DIN VDE 0100 Part 718 and DIN VDE 0100 Part 482, from the VDE 0100 (VDE 0100) series of standards, require the insulation resistance of all wires to be measured / tested against the protective ground (earth / PE) without disconnecting the neutral conductor. In buildings with many FI/LS circuits, it happens that each room or current path represents a single circuit, which must be considered separately during testing.
With the AITB installation terminals, each N potential can be routed separately via individual disconnectors and separated for insulation measurement. The resistance can be measured conveniently and safely with the specified test voltage via the integrated test tap at the respective connection point.
In the case of large circuit groups, safe contact to the copper bar is established via an N-disconnect slider on the N-disconnect terminal block. This closes a circuit that extends over the isolating slider to the copper bus bar. When the slider is levered to the end position, it opens the contact to the N busbar.
Thus the circuit is interrupted and the insulation resistance can be measured conveniently and safely with the specified test voltage. For this purpose, an integrated test tap is available at the respective connection point. The position indicator on the disconnect slide informs about the current status of the system, i.e. the contact to the busbar. It can also be read in the wired state.
The design of terminal blocks for the building industry requires a large number of individual accessories that must be linked together to meet the criteria of the standard. Compliance with clearances and creepage distances, finger safety or even the scannability of the functional areas are just some of the required and desired properties. Maximum flexibility must be provided for the individual design of the switchgear for planning, installation and later operation.

The BB-CV AITB 3X10 cover profile provides the necessary finger safety within the terminal strip. Overhanging parts of the busbar, which are provided as a reserve within the switchgear, can thus be secured against unintentional contact during maintenance work or measurements. The cover profile can be flexibly and individually cut to length.
The AEB ITB 2.5/4 BB BL is one of the all-rounders in theKlippon® Connect accessories for building installationwiring. The end bracket serves as a support block for thebusbar. Due to its identical contour to the three level installation terminal block AITB 2.5 BB... this can additionally be used for visual separation within the terminal strip, but also as an end plate. This saves additional components and working time. A holder for labeling (WAD 5) is available on the head side of the products.
